Cast Iron Sewer Pipe Repair in Nashville and Middle Tennessee
The service

Cast Iron Sewer Pipe Repair, explained.

Cast iron was the standard drain pipe for much of the last century, and many older buildings still have it. It is strong and quiet, but wastewater slowly corrodes it from the inside. Scale builds up into rough nodules that narrow the pipe, and joints and thin spots can start to leak.

Repair begins with descaling to remove the rust and scale, then a camera to check the true condition of the metal. If the iron is still sound, a liner gives it a new smooth interior and seals the leaks and joints. If the pipe is badly pitted or thin, the camera will show it and replacement may be the better answer. Lining is common for stacks and building drains where opening walls would be disruptive.

How long does cast iron last?

It varies a great deal with the water, the waste and the install. Many lines last for decades, which is why many buildings still have them.

Can badly corroded iron be lined?

Not always. If the wall is too thin or broken, the better answer may be replacement. The camera shows which situation you have.
